Free Alphabet Tracing Worksheets A-Z for Preschool Kids
Posted in :
Learning the alphabet is an exciting first step in a child’s reading and writing journey. These free alphabet tracing worksheets give children a simple and enjoyable way to practise uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z.
The printable pack contains 26 worksheets – one for every letter of the alphabet – and is designed especially for preschool and early-learning children.
Each worksheet combines tracing, recognising, speaking and writing so children can practise the same letter in several different ways.
What’s Included in the A-Z Alphabet Worksheets?
The free printable pack contains 26 A4 pages, covering every letter from A to Z.
On each page, children can:
- Trace a large uppercase letter
- Trace a large lowercase letter
- Practise tracing the letter several times
- Learn a simple word beginning with the letter
- Find and circle the uppercase and lowercase letter
- Practise writing the letter independently
- Complete a simple letter challenge
For example, on the Letter A worksheet, children practise A and a, learn “A is for Apple”, search for the letter A among other letters and then practise writing it themselves.

The download contains all 26 printable alphabet worksheets in one PDF file.
Simply download the file, print the pages you need and start learning.
You can print the whole alphabet at once or introduce one letter at a time.
How to Use These Worksheets
There is no need to complete the whole alphabet quickly.
For younger children, try introducing one letter at a time.
Start by saying the letter name together and talking about its sound. Ask your child to look at the large letter before tracing it slowly with a pencil or crayon.
Next, encourage them to trace the smaller letters.
You can then say the example word together. For example:
A is for Apple.
Ask your child if they can think of another object or word beginning with the same letter.
Finally, let them complete the letter-finding activity and practise writing the letter independently.
Make Alphabet Learning More Fun
Worksheets work even better when they are combined with hands-on learning.
After completing a letter worksheet, try an activity connected to that letter.
For example:
A – Apple: Count or taste different apples.
B – Ball: Play a simple throwing and catching game.
C – Cat: Draw or colour a cat.
D – Dog: Talk about different animals.
F – Fish: Make a simple fish craft.
L – Lion: Practise making animal sounds.
S – Sun: Go outside and talk about the weather.
T – Tree: Look for different trees outdoors.
Connecting letters with everyday objects and experiences can make learning more meaningful and memorable.
What Children Can Practise
These alphabet worksheets can support several early-learning skills, including:
- Letter recognition
- Uppercase and lowercase letter awareness
- Early handwriting
- Pencil control
- Vocabulary development
- Letter-sound awareness
- Visual scanning
- Independent writing practice
Children develop these skills at different rates, so the worksheets can be repeated whenever extra practice is helpful.
Who Are These Worksheets For?
The printable worksheets are best suited to children around 3-5 years old, but they can also be useful for kindergarten children who need additional alphabet practice.
They can be used:
- At home
- In preschool
- In kindergarten
- In early-learning centres
- During homeschool activities
- As extra literacy practice
- For quiet learning time
Parents and educators can choose individual pages depending on the letters a child is currently learning.
Printing Tips
For everyday practice, normal A4 printer paper works well.
If you would like to reuse the worksheets, print them on thicker paper and place them inside a reusable plastic sleeve. Children can then practise tracing the letters using a whiteboard marker and wipe the page clean afterwards.
This can be especially useful when a child wants to practise the same letter several times.
